Text | "ON the first day of December 1874 the Will of Frederick Huntington late of Number 19 George Street in the Borough of Kingston upon Hull, Consulting Surgeon, deceased, who died on the fourteenth day of November 1874, at Number 19 George Street aforesaid was proved in the District Registry attached to Her Majesty’s Court of Probate at York by the Oath of Sarah Hening Huntington of Number 10 Horne Lane Ilfracombe in the County of Devon, Spinster, the Niece of the said deceased, the sole Executrix therein named she having been first sworn duly to administer. Effects under £4,000. No leaseholds. Extracted by Scott & Cooper, Solicitors Hull. "This is the last Will and Testament of me Frederick Huntington of Number 19 George Street in the Borough of Kingston upon Hull, Consulting Surgeon, I bequeath to Maria the Widow of my late Brother John Allanson Huntington, now residing at Number 10 Horne Lane Ilfracombe, all my silver plate my gold china faced time keeper watch my gold neck chain with gold spectacles attached my gold spectacles my concertina in rosewood box and my crimson silk counterpane To my Niece Mary the Wife of Norrison Levett of the Hull Savings Bank my framed engraving “The Light of the World” my easy rocking chair What-not mahogany reading stand, and the solid glass inkstand in my lower back sitting room also the watercolour painting now suspended over the fireplace in my lodging-room and the framed engraved portrait of the late Reverend Thomas Dykes now in my Surgery To my Niece Eliza Sibbald, the Wife of The Reverend William Thompson Alderson, Chaplain of the Gaol at Wakefield, my framed engraving of John Knox my Book of Common Prayer in nine parchment bound folio volumes Hoare’s Introduction to the Scriptures in four volumes and my microscope under a Glass Shade To my Niece Fanny Dykes of Leeds the small timepiece in my kitchen the small writing desk in the lower back room and my rosewood Solitaire board with marbles To my Nephew Frederic Dykes of Wakefield Banker my gold pencil case the portfolio of engravings in my lodging room my rosewood table once the property of the King of Prussia And the rosewood writing desk and the small Group of Stuffed English Birds with its Glass Shade now in my back Sitting Room To my Nephew The Reverend John Bacchus Dykes, Doctor of Music, Vicar of the Church of Saint Oswald in the City of Durham, Fox’s Book of Martyrs in eight volumes, Wickliffe’s New Testament, the bust of the Reverend Thomas Dykes with its glass shade and my mourning ring marked “In remembrance of” which is now in the desk in my lodging room To my Nephew Edward Octavius Dykes of Leeds Banker’s Clerk the original portrait of the Reverend Thomas Dykes my metallic barometer in its circular oak frame my rosewood table which stands below the portrait of The Reverend Thomas Dykes my two ancient oak chairs on each side of the table and my oak framed Book holder in the back Sitting room my glass prism with its stand in mahogany box my Gold Repeater Watch and Chain my diamond breast pin and diamond ring To Mr Keyworth the younger of the City of London Sculptor the oak framed marble medallion of myself To the trustees of the General Infirmary at Hull All my medical Books and my anatomical preparations and Surgical Instruments to be applied to the purposes of that institution To my Godchild Laura Bean of Albion Street Hull my Bunyan’s Pilgrims Progress bound in morocco and gilt To my Godchild Edith Levitt daughter of the said Mary Levitt my New Testament bound in crimson morocco and gilt To Lumley Crowle Cook of Hull my Book of Common Prayer with illustrations from Works of the Great Painters To my half brother George Samuel Hayes of Brighton my Knights Pictorial Bible in four volumes I bequeath to the said Mary Levett Eliza Sibbald Alderson Fanny Dykes Frederic Dykes John Bacchus Dykes and Edward Octavius Dykes the legacies or sums of two hundred pounds apiece I devise all real estates (if any) vested in me as trustee or mortgagee to my Niece Sarah Hening Huntington of Number 10 Horne Lane Ilfracombe aforesaid her heirs and assigns upon the trusts and subject to the equities affecting the same respectively I devise and bequeath all other my real estate and the residue of my personal estate (including my share in the Hull Botanic Gardens and my one fourth share of two pews in Saint John’s Church Hull) to the said Sarah Hening Huntington her heirs executors administrators and assigns respectively Upon trust with all convenient speed to sell my real and leasehold estates together or in parcels by public auction or private contract with power to make any special conditions as to title or evidence of title or otherwise and with power to buy in the premises at any public sale or to rescind either on terms or gratuitously any contract and to resell without being answerable for any consequent loss and to convey and assign the premises respectively so sold to the purchaser or purchasers thereof And to convert and get in my other residuary personal estate and after payment of my debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the pecuniary legacies hereinbefore bequeathed to pay and divide the residue of the monies to arise from such real and leasehold estates and residuary Personal estate unto and equally between and amongst such of the following persons namely my said Sister in law Maria Huntington and my Nieces Sarah Hening Huntington, Ellen Huntington, and Maria the Wife of Peter Henry Haffey Scott, of Birkenhead, Merchant, and my Servant Annie Leggott as shall be living at my death and such of the children then living of any of the said persons who shall have died in my lifetime as being male shall attain the age of twenty one years or being female shall attain that age or marry under that age such children to take by substitution the share which their own parent would have taken had she survived me and if more than one in equal shares as tenants in common per stirpes And I direct that any sum or sums which shall become payable to any married woman under my Will shall be paid to her for her sole and separate use free from marital control and her receipt alone shall be a sufficient discharge to the person or persons paying such sum or sums I empower the trustee for the time being of this my Will to give receipts for all moneys and effects to be paid or delivered to such trustee by virtue of my Will and declare that such receipts shall exonerate the persons taking the same from liability to see to the application or disposition of the monies or effects therein mentioned I appoint the said Sarah Hening Huntington to be the sole Executrix of my Will Lastly I revoke all other Wills In Witness whereof I have signed my name at the end of this my Will contained in this and the preceding two Sheets of Paper this twenty third day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy four Signed by the said testator Frederick Huntington as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our Names as Witnesses John
