Patent Rolls, 1367–70, page 366); the Friars Minors of Richmond (Idem, 1381–85, page 234); the Carthusian houses of Hull and Coventry (Cal. Close Rolls, 1377–81, page 229, and his will); Sherburn Hospital, co. Durham (Surtees, Hist. of Durham, volume i, page 287), and Durham Hall, Oxford (Cal. Patent Rolls, 1381–85, pages 239, 371–2). His munificent gifts to Durham Cathedral, including an alabaster foundation for the shrine of St. Cuthbert, made in London and shipped to Newcastle in cases, are detailed in Hist. Dun. Script. Tres, pages 135, 136.

    He first bore arms at the recapture of Berwick by his father, December 1378.

    When travelling in Prussia in 1383 he hurried back to Flanders to take part in the expected fighting there in the Bishop of Norwich's "crusade," and in that year began his official work on the Border, as a commissioner to receive money due from the King of Scotland.

    In 1385 he attended Richard II on his expedition into Scotland.

    In May 1386 ("as Henry Percy the younger, whom the Scots call Haatspore") he was sent with a large force to Calais.

    In August 1387 he was in command of a squadron at sea against the French.

    In January 1390/1, being sent on some mission abroad—query, to Calais—he had licence to make his brother Ralph his deputy; he returned during the year.

    Notes:

    Succeeded in 1430 to the estates of his paternal uncle of the half-blood, John (Neville), Lord Latimer.

    He was a trier of petitions in the Parliament of 23 Hen. VI.

    He was one of 13 kinsmen who were peers of Parliament, 1450–55. (See note in Complete Peerage, 2nd ed., sub Boyle of Kinalmeaky.)

    In 1434 he was commissioner for array in co. York.

    In August 1436 he was appointed a commander against the Scots.

    In 1439 his good service in the Marches towards Scotland is mentioned.

    In 1437 he was on the commission of the peace in Cumberland.

    On 13 February 1436/37 he and Elizabeth his wife had a Papal indult to have mass celebrated before daybreak.

    He became a lunatic before 11 June 1451, when custody of his lands was given to his brother, Richard (Neville), Earl of Salisbury, but apparently at lucid intervals. (The grant was renewed by Edward IV when he became king.) He continued to be summoned to Parliament for 18 years.

    He is said to have been with the (Lancastrian) Duke of Exeter at Hull in 1460, awaiting Queen Margaret's arrival, having been personally summoned by the Queen.

    "In the Chron. of London (E. Tyrrell) it is stated that at Leicester on Whitsunday (1426) King Harry with his own hands dubbed a number of knights, including Sir George Nevyle, lord of Latymer. As the addition of his style anticipates his succession to the estates by four years, the account is apparently not contemporary."

    He was summoned to Parliament from 25 February (1431/32) 10 Hen. VI to 7 September (1469) 9 Edw. IV, by writs directed Georgio Latymer chivaler, whereby he is held to have become Lord Latimer.

IV, was summoned to Parliament as a Baron [LORD BERGAVENNY], by writs directed "Edwardo Nevill domino de Bergevenny chivaler," though he does not appear to have been seized, except for a short time, of the Castle and lands of that name.
