  In March 1343/44, as Henry de Percy le fitz, he was going abroad with the Earl of Arundel in the King's service. [11] He fought at Crécy, 26 August 1346. [12] In 1346 he was still in the retinue of the Earl of Arundel; in June 1347 he was in the train of the Earl of Lancaster. [12] In 1348 he served on a commission of inquiry in Yorkshire. [13] In November 1349 he went on service to Gascony, under the Earl of Lancaster, and in August 1350 fought in the King's naval victory over the Spaniards off Winchelsea. [14] In March 1352 he was a commissioner to receive King David of Scotland on his return to captivity. [15] In October 1353, and following years, he was a commissioner to treat as to the return of King David, and for peace. [16] On 20 January 1355/56 he was among the witnesses to Edward Balliol's surrender to Edward III of the Kingdom and (golden) crown of Scotland. [17] In September 1355 he crossed with the King from Sandwich, being made marshal of the royal army in Calais. [7] He took part in the King's expedition to Champagne in October 1359. [18] He was one of those who took the oath for the observance of the treaty of Brétigny, and who escorted King John of France to Calais. [19] In August 1360, and in 1362, he was a plenipotentiary to negotiate with David of Scotland. [20] On 19 October 1364 he witnessed at Dover the marriage treaty of Edward, Earl of Cambridge, and Margaret, Duchess of Burgundy. [21]
