Compiling genealogical tables of families that hold some sort of hereditary honour has probably always been a popular hobby. This has only become clear though since those engaged in it have transferred their records to the Internet. Some compilers make a particular point not of researching ever more remote ancestors but of keeping their records up-to-date in the face of continuing births, marriages and deaths.
