Public Record Office – the main source of official genealogical records in the U.K. Now supplies much advice on the Internet. Electronic versions of the most recently available census records have now appeared (story – The Daily Telegraph, Monday, March 25th, 2002)
Public Record Office of Northern Ireland
General Record Office (Northern Ireland)
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission – includes a searchable register of where those killed in the two world wars (1914–1921 and 1939–1947) are buried or commemorated – some entries contain biographical details
Church of Ireland
The Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England is now a part of English Heritage
Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts
General Register Office for Scotland (including a section specifically for genealogists)
Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie (at The Hague)

International Genealogical Index

The International Genealogical Index is probably both the best known source of genealogical information in the world and the largest. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints carry out genealogical research as a part of their faith. Over the years they have transcribed many genealogical records and made them available on microfilm and microfiche. The I.G.I. became available over the Internet in May 1999.
