Crown Appointments in British Counties

Many counties have web sites giving details of their Lord Lieutenant and High Sheriff. Some just give the names of the current holders of the post; others, however, give more general details (history, resposibilities, etc.). (The office of High Sheriff is very ancient and has been in existence for about a thousand years.)
