- Alfred Davidson speculates in A History of the Holtes of Aston (1854) that Edward became a Quaker (as his brother-in-law William Hemings was said to be) and wedded Mary Hornblower, of Halesowen, at the Friends' Meeting, at Dudley, in January, 1692. Davidson proceeds to trace various descendants of this marriage in the Black Country.
We can conclusively prove, however, that Davidson's supposition is incorrect, because the death of Edward Holt, son of Sir Robert, in September 1685, is referred to in a deposition taken by commission within the Records of the Exchequer (TNA ref. E 134/8Wm3/East36).
He was therefore the Edward Holt who was buried 4 September 1685 at St. Peter and St. Paul, Aston, Warwickshire.
